“She’s my secret weapon,” James laughs. “People see me walking her, and suddenly the mood changes. They’re like, ‘Well, he can’t be too bad if his dog likes him.’”
Samantha isn’t just a loyal companion — she’s a road partner. She keeps James on a healthier schedule, ensuring they both take breaks every couple of hours. She loves Elvis, cocking her head as James sings along to the radio, and has “pooped across almost every state in America,” a running joke James thinks would make a great travel book someday.
But what James values most is Wright’s culture. Coming from companies where delays or violations could mean harsh words, Wright was a breath of fresh air. “Here, if I get stuck in traffic, they don’t chew me out. It’s, ‘Sorry you had to deal with that.’ If I make a mistake, it’s not yelling and finger-pointing — it’s, ‘What happened, and how can we fix it?’ That’s respect.”
He’s also seen how safety and equipment are prioritized. Maintenance isn’t treated like an inconvenience — it’s part of setting drivers up for success. And unlike some places he’s worked, Wright doesn’t talk down to drivers. “I hate being disrespected,” James says. “Here, even if you make a mistake, it’s about improvement, not punishment.”
For James, Wright Transportation is more than a job. It’s a company where he can thrive, stay safe, and share the road with his best four-legged friend. “I’m very happy here,” he says. “It would take something drastic — like winning the lottery — for me to leave.”
