After more than three decades in trucking, including a serious shoulder injury that nearly ended his career, this Wright Transportation driver has found both stability and belonging on the road.
Eight years ago, Albert made the decision to leave a larger carrier where he “never saw home” and was constantly pressured to push beyond limits. At Wright, the difference was immediate. “Now, I leave on Sunday and I’m usually back by Monday. I’ve got time to do things for myself. That’s something I never had before,” he says.
At 62 years old, Albert’s content to stay put. “I’m too old to be job-hopping. This is home.”
He still loves the open road, with Arizona being one of his favorite runs. “It’s just a nice, pleasant drive out there,” he shares. And whether it’s sunshine, storms, or chaining up in winter weather, he takes it all in stride. “If you can’t deal with the weather and traffic out here, you don’t need to be out here,” he says with a laugh.
What matters most to him now is survival, respect, and relationships. “Out here, it’s about protecting yourself and everybody else. You’ve got good days, bad days, terrible days — all in one — and you deal with it.”
For him, Wright stands apart because of how drivers are treated. “You can walk into the office and talk to the owners. They know you by name, even by your voice on the phone. That doesn’t happen at other companies.”
With his years of experience and hard-won resilience, he sums it up simply: “The pay comes. But the most important thing is surviving, and Wright makes that possible.”
